Sensor Diagnostics & Replacement Services

Ensure Accurate Readings & Optimal Vehicle Performance. Modern vehicles rely on a network of sensors to monitor engine performance, emissions, and overall functionality. A failing sensor can trigger warning lights, reduce fuel efficiency, or lead to performance issues. At Auto Monkey, our mobile mechanics provide on-site sensor diagnostics, repairs, and replacements to keep your vehicle running at peak efficiency.

Signs Your Car's Sensors Are Causing Problems

A malfunctioning sensor can affect everything from fuel economy to drivability. Most often when a sensor fails, you'll see a check engine light appear. Although this isn't always the case, and it depends on the age and make of your car. Newer cars are smarter cars and have more sensors, and computer controls that monitor those sensors. However, more frequently check engine lights will only appear for emissions and engine related issues. This means that you may or may not get a light indicator when your ABS, Temperature Control, Oil, Crankshaft Position or Camshaft Position sensors have failed. Diagnosing these takes knowledge, experience, and sometimes proper diagnostic equipment.

Here are just a few of the most common warning signs when a sensor is failing.

  • Check Engine Light On. Check engine lights most frequently tell us when/where there is an emissions or serious engine failure issue. NOTE: If this light is blinking, stop the car and pull over to a safe place immediately, and do not continue to drive. A blinking light indicates a SERIOUS engine malfunction and prolonged driving can cause further more serious issues.
  • Poor Fuel Economy. Faulty fuel and/or air intake sensors may can cause an decrease in your fuel efficiency. While not initially fatal running your vehicle without the proper fuel/air mixture can lead to other problems down the road.
  • Rough Idling or Stalling. This symptom is often caused by either a throttle position, oxygen sensor, mass air flow (MAF), manifold absolute pressure (MAP), fuel or air sensor gone bad. But, be cautious there are other components that play into this; plugs, coils, fuel pump, and filters.
  • Reduced Engine Performance. Malfunctioning air, oxygen, throttle and EVAP sensors can limit power output.
  • Inconsistent Transmission Shifting. Transmission sensors affect how well the vehicle shifts. Poor performing transmission sensors may result in hard shifting or soft shifting which is more commonly referred to as "slipping". Trouble getting your car in and out of PARK may also result.
